ADA COMPLIANT SIGNAGE
Make your facility or business accessible to everyone with ADA compliant directional signs and graphics. Below is a n overview of ADA regulations concerning signs.

PERMANENT SIGNS
Those designating permanent rooms
& spaces

• Characters and background to be matte or non glare finish and high contrast between them
• Characters must be upper case and sans serif or "simple serif"
• Characters must be between 5/8" and 2" in height, raised a minimum of 1/32" and be accompanied by grade 2 Braille
• Pictograms can be raised 1/32", but are not required to be raised
• Pictograms can be any size within a minimum field of 6" in height
• Written description must be placed below pictogram
• Signs must be mounted on wall on the latch side of the door (if at all possible) and mounted so a person can approach within 3" and avoid door swing and protruding objects
• Mounting height must be 60" from floor to centerline of sign

DIRECTIONAL or INFORMATIONAL SIGNS

• Characters and background to be matte or non glare finish and high contrast between them
• Characters can be upper and lowercase and sized according to the viewing distance (Approximately 1" for every 50' of distance)
• Pictograms can be any size within any size field
• Raised characters and Braille not required

OVERHEAD SIGNAGE

• Characters and background to be matte or non glare finish and high contrast between them
• Characters must be a minimum of 3" in height
• Must be a minimum 80" clearance between overhead sign and floor

PICTOGRAMS      

Pictograms are used to indicate wheelchair accessibility for parking spaces, passenger loading sones, entrances, toilet and bathing facilities, areas of rescue assistance, and location of Text Telephone devices, Volume Control Telephones and Assistive Listening Devices. Permanent rooms and spaces which are wheelchair accessible should have the symbol of Accessibility pictogram.
